Rest Days and More

For the second time this month, I’m going to have a long weekend. This is when a holiday coincidentally falls on a Monday or a Friday, which in effect, extends your weekend. Last Monday was a holiday, and we are also not required to work on the next one because we swapped the US Labor Day with another Philippine holiday.

I may not earn that much compared in my current  job compared to my previous one. But I appreciate the fact that I get to rest on holidays. If the situation changes, I think I would be among those who would resist.

September 1 is a rather crucial day. Depending on my direct superior’s evaluation, I might get endorsed as a probationary employee or the company may have to let me go. I like the workplace. The people in my department are easy to work with, and I have not yet encountered an unmanageable source of stress.

I believe that I was able to meet their expectations. While my pace is not comparable with the rest, my superiors have not subjected me to any coaching about urgent areas of improvement. I am expected to know where I stand, but I also expect them to come up with necessary intervention if they feel that I am somewhat slacking off. Anyway, I’m still hoping for the best.

Newbie Once More

After sending out a few online job applications, one of the companies finally gave me a call last week. I was scheduled for an exam and an interview last Monday. Then they called me again at Wednesday to inform me that I made it, and that the contract signing was scheduled the day after.

It was simply a training contract. The sessions would start on the first of July and would last for two months. The contract stated that each session would last for as long as 12 hours. I was somewhat bothered by this prospect. But then again I was somewhat desperate to address my issues with boredom.

I wonder what kind of topics will be discussed during our training. Product specifics would surely be part of it. However, I am more interested in the technical aspect of being a technical writer (okay the choice of words seems weird). What kind of people would my co-trainees turn out to be? Maybe I should worry about these things later. I still have to take care of my pre-employment requirements.
